A new commentary series will be beginning this week or the next at www.biblejunkies.com on the Acts of the Apostles. The goal at this blog is ultimately to blog a commentary on every document in the New Testament, a task which I see carrying on even after I have retired (unless I can convince some other scholars to join in with me). Thus far I have blogged commentaries on five New Testament documents:

1) The Gospel of Mark

2) Paul's Letter to the Galatians

3) Paul's first Letter to the Thessalonians

4) Paul's second Letter to the Thessalonians

5) The Letter of Jude

Acts of the Apostles will be the second lengthy commentary which I will blog. The commentary on Mark took over a year to complete and I suspect that Acts might take a bit longer than that. There is a surfeit of excellent new scholarship on Acts, much of which will be consulted for this commentary. My goal is to bring solid biblical scholarship for free to an audience that might not have access to libraries or resources that others of us take for granted. As I wrote in the Foreword to the published version of the Gospel of Mark Commentary, "the commentaries will emerge...on the website www.biblejunkies.com in a series of weekly installments which will then be revised and crafted for book form. The goal is to bring solid biblical scholarship to as broad a readership as possible and to make this scholarship accessible to anyone who is interested in exploring the Bible. The goal of Bible Junkies is not to create controversy and rancor, but to create meaning and to provide readers with comprehensive insights into each book of the New Testament.”

For those who are interested, though, the Gospel of Mark commentary, free on this website and at americamagazine.org, is also available in paperback in a revised edition, with limited footnotes and a bibliography at redmaplepress.  The e-book, long promised, is coming soon!

Please come back and visit the website for new entries on Acts of the Apostles weekly.
